So. A comedy with some funny parts. All technical aspects well done, including a long one-shot opening. Very good for a first feature from this director.
But. Some scenes dragged on a little long. One actor even seemed, to me, slow with his reactions. A lot of the characters were written like horny teens, though the characters were in their mid 20s to early 30s? (One was a doctor, so definitely not 22.) And I really didn’t get why so many of the women were hung up on that one guy… So I did not find this to be a great movie.
Side note: The logline makes it seem like the entire movie revolved around Jon Lovitz’s father character. But this felt to me more like an ensemble piece about a lot of drama going on behind the scenes at the wedding.
Acting kudos to Michelle Ortiz throughout. And to Lovitz, who was funny of course, but especially good in an extended serious scene near the end. (And in the Q&A he said he doesn’t drink, so I guess he truly was acting the whole time.)
