| D | Fantastic Fest 2020 |

And Celebration of Fantastic Fest is off to a rocky start.

Yes, this was a different werewolf movie. But not in many good ways, in my opinion. Yes, beautiful French countryside. But as time moves more slowly in rural towns, I guess movie pacing does as well?

This movie didn’t have much new to say about the werewolf legend. There were a few flinch-inducing moments about odd things happening to the kid’s body that don’t usually happen, but they seemed kind of random and were certainly not enough to hang a movie on. Was this an allegory about puberty? Maybe, but the kid seemed kind of old to not have been through puberty yet.

And by the way, how do you get assigned through a temp agency to a massage studio where you don’t just man the front desk, but you know and can apply the different styles of massage? That really bugged me.

The one thing I did like was the visual skill the directors had. I liked many of the shots, the way they were composed and filmed. I would be interested in seeing what these directors could do if they found someone to write them a decent script…
