Well done! An indie movie with excellent production values, emulating documentary formats (interviews and reenactments). The festival director said when she started watching the submission, she thought it was a real documentary until she recognized one of the actors.
And the story (I can’t say “script” because so much of the dialogue was improvised) was good. It started out slow, but had to in order to set things up and give the later escalation a place to grow from. In the long run, it was about politics at the most local level while reflecting on politics at the state and national levels.
And while those reflections felt very current, it’s worth noting that the story was formed (and the interview segments with the characters were filmed) in 2010. (The reenactment sequences were filmed recently, by one of the directors, to finally complete the movie as a 50th birthday gift to the other director.) So we’ve been dealing with these specific issues for a while now… Sadly.
