I was impressed with the quality of this movie all around. The script and direction and editing were all intertwined (I assume) in the head of filmmaker Eva Victor and were all done extremely well. She also played the lead role and excelled at that. All the actors were actually very good.
The non-linear structure helped add to its interest as you try to piece everything together—what happened in the past, what happened afterwards and how it all interrelated. This is not one of those movies that holds the reveal of “the thing that happened” until the end, you find out pretty early. After that we’re finding out how it affected the main character and how she’s trying to deal with it. And the character’s struggle felt really real.
There was one scene that was emotionally tough to watch. But none of the bad thing was shown on screen.
Shout out to John Carroll Lynch, who was only on screen for a few minutes but was marvelous to watch. The character was well-written, but the would have been less enjoyable in many other actors’ hands.
