| A- | AFF Year-Round 2026 |

This film originally screened at the Austin Film Festival 10 years ago. But sometimes AFF has other screenings throughout the year and tonight they re-presented this one.

I loved this script! The situation driving the plot was humorous and led to a variety of fun scenes. A lot of characters had funny traits and/or dialog. Nice surprises throughout. Overall it was a little more light-hearted than I expected, given it’s about divorce. But there was some serious drama in there as well, and all balanced out quite enjoyable. I was really impressed.

The actors did well, and fit the tone of the script nicely. Turns out I’ve seen the male lead in a couple of things before (he looked a little familiar, but IMDB had to confirm for me).

In the Q&A afterwards, the writer/director said she usually makes documentaries. But she and a friend had been joking about this concept for several years and they finally decided to just make it. (Making the script all the more impressive, being her first.) She hasn’t made another narrative feature since, but the audience consensus (certainly mine as well) was she should toss one in between the docs every now and then.
