I am stunned. This is as close to a perfect script as I have seen in a long time. Drew Goddard was adapting the book by Andy Weir (who also wrote the book The Martian) so apparently had a very good starting point, but he made excellent choices on how to adapt for the screen. The characters felt like real people. The science sounded rational. Tons of excellent humor. It constantly surprised me along the way. Amazing writing…
And also well directed (Phil Lord and Christopher Miller) and acted (everyone) and edited… You know you’re completely drawn into the film when you are holding your breath through an intense scene. I can’t recommend it enough, especially if you are a science fiction fan.
I’m linking to the first trailer below because it shows the least of the alien, and much of my enjoyment was how that storyline developed. But believe me, there was plenty more to enjoy than just that part.
