This was billed as a gothic horror film. The emphasis was on the gothic part (i.e., low key, slow build), and on history. I see what the director/writer was trying to do and he achieved it, but period pieces are often wasted on me. I thought the horror element would draw me in, but its specific details did not.
I will say the movie was beautifully filmed. Even if I did not appreciate the story, I see this director is very talented.
