They showed the first two episodes of Mike Flanagan’s remake of Stephen King’s Carrie as a TV series. This is going to be very interesting…
With the extra time granted to a series, Flanagan is exploring the whole ecosystem surrounding the story we know. He knows we know the ending so there are plenty of references to it throughout—no shying away from it. And he’s delving not only into Carrie’s background, but also the lives of all the surrounding characters—who they are and why they are. (Which really is one of Flanagan’s creative strengths.)
Being mostly set in a high school, I was a little afraid this would be another teen angst TV series. But it’s not. Good drama here, excellent writing. I’m looking forward to the rest of the series.
