| B | Fantastic Fest 2025 |

The first half of the movie almost ruined it for me. That’s mostly my fault. From the description, I expected a nuanced, maybe political examination of the uses and misuses of deepfake technology. Going back now and rereading it, I see I was projecting my personal hopes into those words. (And if I had found the trailer before the festival began, I might have started to see the error of my ways.)

This movie is a horror/thriller with oddball characters getting into wild situations, and the catalysts for these were AI-generated videos generated by some guy. If you come into the movie just expecting some uniqueness (scenarios and characters) and creativity (gore and kills), you’ll get what you’re looking for.

I was a little put off by how intertwined this “random” assortment of characters were—that really seemed to be a stretch. And the movie seemed to be back-end loaded (the second half leaned into cartoonish gore more than the first half).

But all in all, I did eventually enjoy the movie and do recommend it.
