| D | Other Worlds Austin 2020 |

Maybe should have been titled “Tangled,” as that was more indicative of the movie itself.

The setup is four main characters running across exact doubles from a parallel universe. But some of them are not exact, of course. And not just slightly different–look exactly the same but extremely different personalities. I think this was a missed opportunity to explore what makes a person the person they are. But the filmmakers were only interested in making a thriller, and that’s how the characters and plot were written.

And the ending–a twist that you may or may not see coming but makes no sense at all. There’s a “rule” in movies that you can get away with one unbelievable element in a movie (as long as it behaves consistently throughout). The ending tossed in a second at the last minute–a cheap, meaningless, last-minute attempt to shock you one more time. Maybe you can tell I was very disappointed by this script?

(December 2020 was very busy for me so I didn’t take the time to write my reviews then. This one was written a few months later.)
