This was a marvelous script! Tremendous performances from all four of the actors (not just J.K. Simmons), but all stemming from the foundation of the story and the plot and the dialog. Just a tremendous film.
In the Q&A, the writer/director says she never writes from outlines. For this script, she wrote an initial scene from the concept she had, then just kept writing pages and even surprised herself at the directions the story went. First draft in four days, then two weeks of polishing—I am envious. (To be fair, she said she knew J.K. and his daughter, Olivia, were on board and she first wrote a different script that she threw away because she didn’t like it. So this was the second story she developed for the project.)
