Excellent mix of comedy and kills in this horror flick.
Horror-wise: You see some bits of most of the kills—those are already interesting. Then each body is set up into an interesting tableau.
Comedy-wise: Right in the middle of a fight scene, they’ll throw something funny in (though crucial to the story). And it worked.
Additionally there was some commentary on how corrupt Indonesian society is. Though thinking about it afterwards, it didn’t sound so different from the US…
After the initial kill, it took a long time to get the rest of the story set up—the prison culture, the various gangs… I wish they could have found a way to shorten this up. But once things got rolling again, the pacing was good through the end.
