Another excellent film from Rian Johnson and the cast and crew he pulled together. And what a cast! Playing interesting characters.
The mystery was twisty/turny, of course, and got doubly mysterious for a while. But as usual most of the clues were there if you watched for them and had the skill to piece them together (which I did not). Very intriguing.
Given the Benoit Blanc character and the fact that the movie is mostly set in a church, I wasn’t surprised that the detective gave a bit of a monologue extolling the virtues of rational logic over faith. What I didn’t expect was the priest’s reasoned counterargument, debating Blanc’s points to explain the value of faith. An excellent scene.
I was a little surprised by the amount of political commentary. Though one could argue it was social commentary and it, like almost everything, is considered political these days. It certainly called out some peoples’ character flaws.
