A solid, independent comedy. And yes, named for the Ronnie James Dio song, for which they got the rights to use.
Comedy: Definitely funny. Fresh and original situations and dialog. Thoroughly enjoyed that.
Independent: A great job overall, but I wanted it to go 10% further in a lot of the scenes. Maybe this was a side effect of only having 18 days to shoot?
It turns out this is the same director who did He Never Died, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Though I see that movie (2015) and its sequel (2019) were the last things he made before this movie.
And the acting was very good. Michael Jai White was great fun. (He said in the Q&A he enjoyed playing a character with a softer side for once. But don’t worry, he’s still kicking ass.) Billy Zane was delightfully unrecognizable. And I enjoyed seeing Evan Stern (Roald from Letterkenny) in something else—he is fun to watch.
[This film will be retitled Don’t Mess With Grandma on its release. Against the director’s wishes, as he state in the Q&A.]
